Algarve is one of Europe's most popular holiday destinations, and its beaches are one of the main reasons why.
With over 150 km of coastline, you'll find dramatic cliffs, hidden coves, long stretches of golden sand and some of the clearest water in Portugal.
These aren't necessarily the most famous beaches, but they are five that I always enjoy coming back to.
1. Praia de Odeceixe
Located at the mouth of the Seixe River, on the border between the Algarve and the Alentejo, this is one of Portugal's most unique beaches. You can swim in the Atlantic Ocean or in the calmer river, making it a great choice for families.
2. Praia do Carvalho
One of my favourite beaches in Portugal. Access is through a tunnel carved into the limestone cliffs, and once you arrive you'll find crystal-clear water surrounded by impressive rock formations.
3. Praia dos Três Irmãos
Known for its sea caves, natural arches and impressive limestone formations. At low tide, you can explore several small coves connected by passages through the rocks.
4. Praia da Falésia
Stretching for several kilometres towards Vilamoura, Praia da Falésia is famous for its spectacular red cliffs. It's one of the best beaches in the Algarve for a long walk, especially at sunset.
5. Praia da Fábrica
Located in the Ria Formosa Natural Park, this beach is reached by a short boat ride at high tide or by walking across the sand at low tide. The combination of white sand, calm turquoise water and the beautiful village of Cacela Velha makes it one of my favourite places in the eastern Algarve.
What about you? Which Algarve beach would make your top five?
