Lagos is one of the easiest places to recommend in the Algarve.
It has beaches, cliffs, a historic centre, restaurants and easy access to other places on the western side of the Algarve.
Ponta da Piedade is probably the main highlight. You can walk along the cliffs, use the boardwalks and viewpoints, or take a boat or kayak tour to see the caves and rock formations from the water.
Praia do Camilo is another place worth visiting. The beach is small and reached by a long staircase, but the views are among the most famous in the Algarve.
Praia dos Estudantes is also worth a stop, especially because of the stone bridge connecting the cliffs. It is only a short walk from the historic centre.
One thing I like about Lagos is that there is more to do than just going to the beach. The historic centre is easy to explore on foot and there are plenty of cafés and restaurants around town.
If you have a car, I would also recommend visiting Burgau and Praia da Luz.
Burgau is a small village between Lagos and Sagres. The beach is right below the village, making it easy to spend a few hours by the sea before continuing your trip through the west Algarve.
Praia da Luz is known for Rocha Negra, a volcanic rock formation that looks very different from the limestone cliffs found across most of the Algarve.
For me, Lagos works well because you can combine beaches, food, walks and day trips without spending too much time in the car.
