As a local, one of my favourite things to do in Lisbon is going to gardens ..whether it’s for a picnic, reading a book, or slowing down from the city pace.
Here are some of my favourites:

Calouste Gulbenkian Garden
One of my favourite places to spend an afternoon. Even though the museum is currently closed for renovations, the gardens are still a must-see. Very accessible, completely free, and perfect for a picnic.
Jardim da Estrela
This garden has a really nice atmosphere. There’s a playground, some yoga and tai chi classes, two kiosks, and some events during the summer. Also a great spot for a picnic.
Tapada das Necessidades
Less visited and, for me, a bit of a hidden gem. It’s worth going up to the cactus area for a great view.
Estufa Fria
One of the most iconic green spaces in Lisbon. It has three different greenhouses with plants from all over the world.
Jardim Botânico Tropical
Belém is usually on everyone’s list for the monuments, museums, and the famous pastéis de nata but this garden is often overlooked. In my opinion, it’s one of the most beautiful in Lisbon.
Jardim Monteiro-Mor
Probably the least known on this list and not very central, but one of the gardens that impressed me the most.
