Founded in 1732, Livraria Bertrand is officially recognised by Guinness World Records as the world's oldest operating bookstore.
Although the original building was damaged in the 1755 earthquake, the bookstore continued operating and eventually returned to Chiado, where it still welcomes readers today. Over the years, it has witnessed political revolutions, fires and nearly 300 years of Portuguese history.
Today, you can still walk through its doors, browse the shelves and buy a book in the world's oldest operating bookstore.
Even if you don't plan on buying anything, I think it's worth stopping by. It's one of those places that reminds you how much history Lisbon has.
