Right in Praça da Figueira, in the heart of Lisbon, you'll find one of the city's most historic pastry shops.
Confeitaria Nacional opened in 1829 and, almost 200 years later, it is still run by the same family.
Over the years, it became a favourite meeting place for locals and was even an official supplier to the Portuguese Royal Family.
Step inside and you'll find marble tables, wooden counters and elegant mirrors that still preserve the atmosphere of old Lisbon.
The house speciality is the Bolo-Rei (King Cake).
In the late 19th century, the founder, Baltazar Roiz Castanheiro, brought the recipe from Paris after discovering the French Gâteau des Rois. It quickly became Portugal's traditional Christmas cake and is still made here every year.
Of course, you'll also find excellent pastéis de nata, traditional Portuguese pastries and one of the best places in Lisbon to stop for a coffee and breakfast.
