Just about 40 minutes from Lisbon, Azenhas do Mar is one of the most beautiful villages on the Portuguese coast.
The white houses seem to hang from the cliffs, with the Atlantic Ocean right below. It's one of those places that looks even better in real life.
One of the highlights is the natural ocean pool. It's filled by the sea and protected by the rocks, so you can enjoy the Atlantic in a calmer setting while the waves crash just outside.
If you're driving, it's an easy day trip from Lisbon. You can also take the train to Sintra and then continue by bus, taxi or Bolt to the village.
If you enjoy photography, try to visit in the late afternoon. Sunset is when the village looks its best.
Don't miss the Restaurante Azenhas do Mar, built right above the ocean pool. It's one of the best places to enjoy fresh fish and seafood with an incredible view of the Atlantic.
If you have time, combine your visit with Sintra or Praia das Maçãs for a perfect day trip.
Whether you come for the views, the food or a swim, Azenhas do Mar is a place you'll remember long after your trip.
